FAQ

Q. What happens if I don’t enjoy my first session?

A. We offer a free trail session for our teaching group lessons. So if that session isn’t for you let us know and we will find you a different session on the programme.

Q. What is British Tennis membership?

A. This is included when you sign up for a teaching session with DTA. It gives you a tennis rating, so that you can play matches against other players from different clubs. Other benefits of a British Tennis membership include entry to the Wimbledon ticket ballot, the only way to get tickets for the event, discounts on tennis holidays and packages to watch British tennis events and other Grand Slams.

Q. What is a tennis rating?

A. A player rating is a way of measuring your tennis ability, so you can see how you are improving. It also means you can make sure you are entering the right level of competitions. You also need a rating to play in competitions. The rating system starts for Under 8 players and runs all the way through to adult players.

Q. Is there any special clothing that I need to wear?

A. Any sports kit and trainers will be fine. Once players have successfully completed their first month with DTA they will be presented with this DTA T-shirt to be worn at each session they attend. DTA have Hoodies, t shirts, bags and other bits of kit available to buy if players are interested. Please check with our coaches for further details. At the House of Sport you must wear non-marking trainers.

Q. Do I need to have my own racquet?

A. You can borrow a racket for the teaching and training sessions, and all mini court sessions. When you are looking for a racket then just ask one of the coaches who will be able to go through the best ones for you and you can try it out before you buy. DTA is in partnership with YC sports and Yonex to so are able to offer internet price on rackets and kit with the added coach experience.

 Q. Are there matches and leagues for me to play in?

A. Yes there are leagues of different levels in the South Wales area. There is a local tennis league in Cardiff organised by the LTA. DTA organise competitions at different venues for players to participate in. Ask one of the coaches for the best competition for you or email our office.

Q. How do you decide which group to put players in?

A. We test players when they start out with us, after which they are tested once each term, by Director of tennis Coach Sena for progress monitoring. Upon reaching the required level, players are automatically moved on.

Q. Where does DTA coach?

A. Our main base is in House of Sport CF118AW (just off Sloper Road). We hold tennis lessons in the heath area on a Friday at the Cardiff Medics Sports and social club. On a Wednesday we hold tennis lessons at Cowbridge Leisure Centre. Please see the coaching page for full details.
